“Reinvest your monthly earnings” – Timothy Glenn, TrafficSource
Timothy Glenn, Founder of TrafficSource, joins the latest series of affiliate interviews on Affiliate Grand Slam
Timothy Glenn, speaks about TrafficSource, a lead generation company, about their different websites, and about their email marketing?– follow his story below.
When and how did TrafficSource take off? Which websites fall under Traffic Source’s portfolio?
TrafficSource got started in 2005 with our first website, BonusMonster.net. Today the BonusMonster group of sites feed traffic to our clients via our newsletter and www.NoDepositBonus.cc and www.NoDepositBonuses.com.
Tell us a bit more about your business model, concept, and culture.
We are a lead generation company for our clients and we leverage “no deposit required” offers to attract players. We have morphed over the years from being strictly a casino affiliate to becoming a publisher leveraging more traditional affiliate networks to generate traffic.
What sets you apart from other affiliates and what makes your sites unique?
Most affiliates gain the majority of their traffic through SEO. In contrast, we pay for our traffic and we spend a lot of money every month, but we spend it profitably (usually).
What incremental value do you provide?
We only promote “no deposit required” offers, which is what our newsletter subscribers and site visitors want. Thanks to the amount of traffic we can send, we get exclusive offers regularly for The No Deposit Bonus Newsletter.
What importance do you give to responsible gaming?
We trust that our casino partners employ safeguards to ensure responsible gaming. Furthermore, since we only promote “no deposit required” offers, we feel that we leave the decision in the players’ hands regarding whether they want to commit their own funds to gaming.
Which markets do you focus on and do you see any potential in the emerging markets?
USA has always been our #1 market. Nevertheless, we are constantly expanding and targeting new markets where there is potential.
What is your email marketing philosophy?
We never spam and we only send out offers we think our subscribers will enjoy.
How important is audience segmentation in email marketing? What importance do you give it?
Obviously, it’s huge because country restrictions vary from brand to brand. Our ability to target emails on a country by country and region by region level, particularly in the USA, is extremely important.
In your view, which is the best email marketing campaign that you have created?
$783 with No Deposit Required! This was the Welcome Letter for the very first PPC ad that ran back in 2005.
How important is social media activity for your affiliate business?
Without doubt, it’s a supplement to our business, but our email list is more important.
Is social media marketing taking the place of email marketing?
No.
What can you tell us about your flagship sites?
NoDepositBonus.cc and NoDepositBonuses.com are the repository for the offers that we send out in our newsletter. Recently, we’ve started to focus on SEO and they’re starting to rank better, which is obviously a good thing. We stick to the “no deposit required” requirement for all the offers on the sites as well.
How does technology play a part in your day-to-day life? How do you keep updated with the latest technologies and software updates?
It seems like my tech devices are constantly updating themselves. Not to mention that I’m on them all day, as is anyone else in our industry.
Do you have any apps?
Yes, we have Android and IOS versions of our apps which are very similar to our websites. Simple apps which only promote “no deposit required” offers.
How do you choose your operators and how do you manage relationships with multiple operators?
There are multiple factors. How much do we make per click? How clickable are their offers? How much do I trust them? We’re very honest and don’t hide the fact that we work with hundreds of different programs. We like them to compete with each other for our traffic.
What is your approach in the initial stages of a new partnership?
Basically, give us a good deal and anything “no deposit required” otherwise we won’t work with you.
Which qualities and skills are essential in an affiliate team/business?
For us it’s always been about sticking to our niche and what got us started. I’ve hired good people who I can trust and I give them autonomy to run things and make decisions.
What does it take for an affiliate business to thrive?
You need to have a niche and you need to stick to your principles. As a matter of fact, you also need to reinvest your monthly earnings to grow your business.
Have you ever been to SiGMA? SiGMA Europe, Africa, Asia, or Americas – which of these four expo shows would you likely book on your diary for 2022?
Yes, and I’m definitely going to SiGMA Americas in Toronto this year.
Tell us a bit about yourself – after all, business is done with people, not just companies! Your hobbies, favourite book, favourite quote, whether you are into Gaming yourself, etc.
I’m likely the best Golden Tee player you’ve ever known. Google it. My kids are better baseball players than I was, which is great. My wife tolerates me; she’s amazing and is the glue that keeps TrafficSource together. Have fun and good luck!
Toronto is the perfect hub for SiGMA’s growth in North America, making it a nexus of networking and business development in the region with regards to land-based, iGaming, sports betting, and more.
