Resorts World Genting halt operations in Malaysia due to COVID-19 restrictions

Resorts World Genting will temporarily close its doors due to new Covid-19 restrictions in Malaysia

In light of new COVID-19 restrictions introduced by the Malaysian government on May 10, Resorts World Genting has announced they will temporarily close their?venues until further notice.

The enforcement of the new MCO 3.0 COVID-19 restrictions will cause more people to work from home. Indeed, it was announced that 40% of workers in the private sector and 80% of workers in the public sector will be required to work from home. This is on top of a 8am to 8pm curfew for businesses in Malaysia set to last from May 25 to June 7.

The Malaysian government?had launched?its Movement Control Order (MCO) COVID-19 restriction?several months ago, yet authorities believed that stricter restrictions were necessary?to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Senior Minister, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, spoke of the news in a statement:

Our strategy is to reduce movement by reducing the number of people working in officers and to limit operating hours of the economic sector.

Resorts World Genting confirmed?that the change?in operating?hours will affect all properties, including?hotels, food and beverage outlets, retail stores amongst?other facilities. While it is unsure when some of its offerings will reopen, Resorts World Genting shared in a statement:

We will continue to fully adhere to the strict SOPs issued by the Government throughout the resort and we seek our guests’ cooperation to do the same.
